How to Get the Most from This Report
This report is massive, and it can be overwhelming. For that reason I've written this step-by-step guide to help you and your parents know the best way to use it. This is exactly how I would walk you through this report if we were sitting together exploring it with you, but since I can't be there this guide will do the "walking:
-
First, open the Profile.
This profile itself is rather lengthy, but it is the basis for the curated careers.
Please make sure it is accurate. If not, please contact me.
-
Next, look at the list of curated careers.
Identify those that don't initially sound appealing.
NOTE: some of you may have a Summary or career-fit-matrix but ALL will have the list of briefs shown below.
-
Before crossing off any career, please open its brief and read only "Greg's Comment."
I intentionally wrote this section first because many careers are very different from what people imagine.
-
Ask yourself whether what I said changes your mind about the job.
It's OK if it doesn't, but it might.
-
Do the same for all others you don't find initially appealing.
-
Next, go to the ones that DO sound interesting and open the brief.
-
Please don't feel like you have to read the entire brief.
Instead, scroll through the section titles and stop wherever your curiosity takes you.
-
Pray about these careers.
Talk with your family, trusted friends, teachers, pastors, or others who know you well.
Watch videos. Visit college websites.
Gradually narrow your list to the careers you'd most like to explore further.
-
Finally, I would love to continue helping you in this journey however I can.
Whether that's discussing careers, arranging job shadowing opportunities, exploring training options,
talking through finances, or identifying scholarships, please don't hesitate to reach back out.
Remember, this report is not a book to be read from cover to cover.
It is a resource to help you discover the career that fits you best.
You are not expected to absorb everything in one evening—or even one month.
Instead, use it as a guide that you'll return to many times as you learn more about yourself
and about different careers.
Some students narrow their list within a few weeks.
Others take months or even longer.
That's perfectly okay.
The goal isn't to make a quick decision—it's to make a wise one.
One request: Please don't try to read every page of every career brief.
That would be overwhelming for almost anyone.
Instead, simply follow the steps above, one at a time.
You'll get far more out of your report by exploring it than by trying to read it cover to cover.
In Christ,
Greg
